What's Happening At The Bean
Between May and August, the Nautical Bean Music Series takes the stage, set along the shop’s waterfront patio below signature palms, before quiet sailboats and within the fiery sunsets that San Diego is famous for. Locals and vacationers intending only to stop in find Themselves sitting, standing and eventually swaying to the clean sounds of Southern California’s finest musicians. From the Blues-Latin twist of The Double Fives to the extemporaneous creations from members of the The Ike Turner band, anyone who knows about The Bean finds time to fit in a night at The Oceanside Harbor, with a thick cappuccino or rich drip and a few relaxing sets of colorful summer tunes.
Even when The Bean’s summer concert crowds pulse to nearly one-hundred strong late into the evenings, one can always find solitude in the mornings, when the action of the night has long evaporated and only familiar sounds and flavor of dawn at The Nautical Bean remains.

Chini/Camberos
Chini and Camberos are a dynamic guitar duo that combines a unique blend of world beats and rhythms to well crafted melodies. Their music takes you on a journey from the deserts of the Southwest to the Isles of the Mediterranean.
Robert Chini, a native of Southern California of Italian descent, is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who started as a drummer at the age of five. Although a drummer, he soon found a passion for the guitar, keyboard, and bass. Robert's talents led him to play bass for the popular England Dan & John Ford Coley. Robert has also written and produced several commercials, one of which won him an Emmy award.
Jorge Camberos, born in Matzatlan, Mexico, is an exquisite, extraordinaire Latin/Jazz guitarist. Jorge began exploring his musical talents at a very early age. After experimenting with a variety of musical instruments he soon discovered a passion for the guitar. Jorge attended the University of Mexico City and later moved to Los Angeles, California. It was during this time when Jorge met and worked with such musicians as Al Mackey (Earth. Wind, and Fire) and Steve Lukather of Toto. As a consequence he began backing up shows and touring the West Coast, Canada, and Mexico. Upon his return to L.A. he graduated from GIT. |

Jimmy Patton
Nationally acclaimed guitarist Jimmy Patton is renowned for his ability to play two separate guitars at the same time, playing both melody and accompaniment parts simultaneously. He performs his own arrangements of popular and jazz tunes, as well as original compositions.
In 2001, Patton claimed the title of "Best Unsigned Guitarist in the Nation," defeating over 3,000 guitarists across the entire United States. In this Guitar Center sponsored "Guitarmageddon" competition, Patton won a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Patton has shared the stage with Grammy award-winning Stanley Jordan, Laurence Juber of Paul McCartney's "Wings," Adrian Legg, Preston Reed, virtuoso rock guitarist Tony Macalpine, as well as keyboardist Derek Sherinian of "Dream Theater." He studied under Fred Benedetti of Benedetti & Svoboda master guitar duo. |

It is not a simple undertaking to adequately describe the work and art of this exceptional musician. Steve White, 55, lives near San Diego, California. He has developed a unique sound and style seldom heard in our region. With his live shows he leaves his audience spellbound with the impression that they're listening to an entire band.
He celebrates a blues-drenched “songwriter performance” of the finest order. It would be an injustice to simply label him a “Bluesman” although his music owes more than a nod to that tradition.
Even the songs he hasn't written himself become his when he plays them. His style is expressive and highly percussive. Listen to Steve. Here is what you get: His guitar in a low tuning of his own invention, he plays a bass line while alternating a slap-string right hand style with rhythmic accents on the off-beats, playing the guitar-top like a drum. With a slide on his pinky, a wailing blues harmonica on a rack in front of his mouth filling the breaks between raspy-voiced verses, and his clog-shod feet drumming away on an amplfied footboard of his own design - the concert audience experiences a musical thunderstorm.

For singer/songwriter/guitarist Ben Powell, blues music is about roots, authenticity and feeling. Powell blends county blues, early jazz and roots music with influences ranging from Willie McTell and Charlie Patton, to Jelly Roll Morton, to more modern artists such as Tom Waits, John Hammond, Corey Harris and Alvin Youngblood Hart. His performances mix his originals with covers of material by all these artists and more. The depth of his original work and its attention to authentic detail, makes for a smooth transition between his own material and that of his musical inspirations. |
